Yes, that is possible. Never think that you know the number of a sprite; always get it from sp() or ¤t_sprite. The editor_num you can know, the active sprite number does not follow defined rules (which means that if you predict it, even if you are right this time, it may break at any time, so don't do that).
I don't know if WDE+ changes its editor_nums when you do things to the sprites; I wouldn't be surprised if it did, which would mean using those is also fragile (because it can break when you edit the map). It might be good to check that. Or does someone know about this?
