Which is why hypnotists always want you to focus on something (like a spot on a card or the palm of their hand), so your concentration is elsewhere? Then they shock you and sort of overdrive and lock your subconcious? Kinda similar to when you're in a bad car crash, and you're told to do something. It's much more likely that you'll follow people's commands cause your brain is in shock. Correct?"

That is one of the ways yes, and it is the most used in the street and on stage entertainment, because it looks impressive. Not based around it though, that would imply the whole practice is based around shock, but one of the ways to induce hypnosis certainly is. There's also the progressive relaxation method where you sort of slowly lul them into it, and also the fixation method, which takes them into a guided daydream to get them there. There's many ways actually. But I would say the shock and confusion methods are the most used.
