Well, I can tell for certain that Mystery Island was released before 2000 (which is roughly when I first played Dink; Mystery Island wasn't new at that time). When exactly is a guess, but I think it's somewhat likely that Mystery Island was released with v1.05: That version introduced some rather specific-sounding commands (like sp_picfreeze()) that few dmods have used except for Mystery Island. More importantly though, most of the stuff in the Mystery Island folder date to June 1998, which is probably pretty close to its release date.
