Hmm, could someone elaborate on this? 
How come someone aged 12 has a "graduation" and receives Academic Excellence Awards? Is it a motivation for the things to come or so? 
In the Dutch system, when you're 12, you have just finished your basic education ("basisschool" though I'm not familiar with the English equivalent.. elementary school( + high school?)?), meaning that you can read, write, do basic arithmetic, some English and such. Basically your education has yet to begin, so to speak
