Actually, I was pretty much building an emulator of Chip's Challenge, which, going by the screenshots, looks extremely similar to Lasertank. The inspiration for the underwater bits (none of those in Chip's Challenge) was Dr. Lunatic Supreme.

The main problem with my little game is that the screen is too small... I could put different parts of a level on different screens, but it'd be terribly annoying to try to solve a level without seeing all of it. Actually, Chip's Challenge had the same problem even though it was a free scroller. There was one very large level where you had to navigate on ice by bouncing off of stuff. This was extremely frustrating... it came down to trial and error, basically, since the map was hard to remember.
