Reply to Re: Dink Smallwood history (with the long-lost worst DMODs ever for download!)
If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
Unfortunately, a lot of really old DMODs don't work correctly in V1.08 Aural+ for some reason. The main problem (I observed this even in Search for Milli Vanilli) is that control will sometimes mess up and you'll either freeze for a while or be unable to stop walking in the same direction. In addition, these particular dmods sometimes load the wrong graphics, and will crash whenever you punch anything (I swear, when I released them they weren't THAT broken).
In regards to this, I'm not so sure it's Dink at fault. I don't have any problems, for instance.
It sounds more like a problem with your operating system. For me, on Windows 7, the colours often get screwed up so that an entire dmod looks like the guts of a bonca. On Windows 8, DinkEdit is superslow for some reason (it takes half a minute to load up the hard map of a screen).
FreeDink seems to work somewhat better on these OSs, but still. I mostly stick to playing Dink on Windows XP (where the only problem I ever got was the midi lag that Aural+ fixes).
Crashing when you punch something, or loading the wrong graphics sounds weird, though. Maybe your OS is moving some files from the Dink Smallwood folder somewere else? (Vista/W7 can actually do that - see this thread, for example)
