How many find this funny?

c:/dos/run
run/dos/run
This made me giggle. How about you??

I'm too much of a pedant to find it funny... cause, see... it's
c:\dos, not c:/dos. So...
c:\dos, not c:/dos. So...
If your on nix is it c:/
No it's not. Says a bit of how much you know. On "nix", it's just "/".
Wierd, I've talked around with lotsa peeps they say its like that, and its even like this on The simpsons lol. ANd yes I am not a linux pro lol
Nerd is such a harsh word. People these days kinda abuse the word nerd.
Hey, congratulations on discovering the Simpsons.
I've seen that before, but it still makes me laugh, unless I read it too much... funny...lol

Indeed. But I mean nerd as in someone who, for example likes pcs and knows about them. that sort of thing. I do not mean the abusive slang version that is used these days and is, as you say, is an abuse of the word. Besides, it'd be rather silly and sad if I got offended by something that I said.

Nerd is not a bad word at all. It means that a nerd is someone who likes computers and technologie combined with lack of social skill. The only problem is that it is being used as a bad word.
Just google for the definition of nerd if you want to be sure.

...Yes indeed.. just to make sure. I just don't like it when someone uses nerd as a bad word, I mean you can't just say to someone you're stupid because you're genious.
I would say a nerd is when you know computers real good. And don't care\know anything about everything else.
I have some experience with a real nerd:
The nerd and I we're playing with his dog, we through a ball so the dog could catch it. I threw over 40 metres down his yard and the nerd threw around 2

I agree with you Erwin. I also hate when people use it to mean someone without friends, as my sister did with me when I was in high school and had none.
But the nerd, in his head, was thinking about constructing a device that could launch the ball 1600 (or 40^2) meters
Maybe so Simeon, he did create alot of cool stuff though.

You didn't have friends DraconicDink?

Sorry I need to correct myself here. My sister thought I didn't. She was incorrect. I had a couple, which admittedly is not much better.

I hope for your sake that you don't find this funny in any way!
Don't find what funny in any way?
That there are people without friends and live a horrible life!
Not really, seeing as I am one of those people, but at least I have a few friends...

Sadly, i was deliberately like that in Years 9 and 10. I was a bit of a loner, so I had no friends in college. However, I was referring to Years 11 and 12 before, when I had literally a couple of friends.

Yeah, darn that Doctor Seuss!

Draconic "got some" before me?
I hope you realise I was refuring to friends not sex.

Because you chose to be a loner. That is what's sad.

Why? It's not like I was feeling lonely or anything.

I'll fill this one in for Tal: I hope you realise that was a joke?
Glad to see nothing's changed... arguing over definitions, Phoenix being as pedantic as ever and people generally misunderstanding each other... (perhaps not as many references to bananas though?) Why weren't you fussed about having friends DD?
It's always a party here at the Dink Network!
I'm working on the banana-thing. The radiation warning thread should have some.

I'll fill in for me here: I hope you realise I was doing something called "playing along with the joke". You may of heard of it.

I just wanted be by myself.

Are you sure, "horrible life"?

1. It's a backslash. MS-DOS doesn't use *nix syntax, and *nix xyntax starts with just a /. The Simpsons is a not too reliable source for stuff like that, either. And don't go telling me it's a c:/, because I used MS-DOS for years and still use it when I need to.
2. I still don't understand what the joke is supposed to be? What's supposed to be funny about c:\dos, c:\dos\run, run\dos\run?

There's some children's book about a dog named Spot. These words consist of like half the book:
See Spot. See Spot run. Run Spot Run!
Or something like that. And you'd pronounce "c:\dos, c:\dos\run, run\dos\run" in much the same manner.

Indeed Vukodlak a life without friends isn't horrible (but I do have three of them ) but that thinking micht just be because we're autistic. (Quite a good thing to be autistic when you're a nerd then )
Thanks for clarifying that Redink1, and I must say it is a funny coincedence.
At first I was thinking about "Run Forest, run!", but that Spot one was pretty neat.
I made a batchfile containing only 'win', and I called the file 'lose.bat'. So I can type 'lose' in MS-DOS and it starts Windows. Win loses.
