It's the Download Of The Month winner anouncement time again! You didn't have much to choose from, but nobody wanted to compete with Simeon's Blood Scorpions anyway! He won, you see. Congratulations!

Congratulations Simeon! A terrific D-Mod.

Ditto all of the above. Really good dmod. I'm kinda glad my computer was down while voting was going on cuz I'm torn between Redink's Trees and Simeon's BS. I thought the trees mod is something that is so useful to everyone that it merited well-deserved recognition. They were pretty, colorful, & much needed. Why do we have to choose between such seemingly disparate dmods? They each filled a different purpose and both were deserving of awards, so I'm really curious about why they are in the same type category. The good single-purpose dmods always lose to the adventure dmods. I'm probably not understanding the real reasons but maybe someone could explain this. Thanks

I wondered about this myself. I wanted to vote for BS but felt that by doing so I was voting against Trees which I didn't want to do because, without those trees, there wouldn't have been the scenery in BS that so impressed me. But I guess that's why it's called the Download of the Month, not the Graphics DOTM, or whatever. I dunno.

Woohoo! My first award!

I'd like to thank all the people who voted for Blood Scorpions. Please note that I couldn't have created Blood Scorpions the way it is now without the Trees graphics pack. So credit goes as well to redink1 for those graphics

Why do we have to choose between such seemingly disparate dmods?

Because sub-categorization of DOTM awards would result in far too many awards given out.

DOTM's don't really mean that much (from my viewpoint) anyway, because of the sheer luck it takes to win one. What if SimonK released SOBIII last month? Blood Scorpions probably wouldn't win, with no fault to Simeon at all. He would have just released it at the wrong time.

Meanwhile, in other cases, some D-Mods of relatively poor quality (not Blood Scorpions, but I don't want to name names) have won simply because there wasn't anything else worth mentioning released in the same month.

I just want to point out that if a dmod is of really poor quality to me and it is the only one released for that month, then I wouldn't vote at all. That doesn't solve anything- they would still win for that month even if they were the only one to vote- but at least I didn't contribute to a lousy dmod's award.
Does there have to be a winner every month? That would take care of the "far too many awards" problem.

And if 2 good dmods are released on the same month, maybe there could be separate categories to vote on epics vs romps, etc.[ or whatever].

This might have been tried before and didn't work, I dunno. But sometimes there are some really great graphic packs, midis, etc. that don't get any attention and it just seems a shame. Oh well....At least if two good releases come out in the same month, the author can cherish his award.

PS and Simeon, you produced an excellent game and deserve an award so enjoy.

But you can always vote for None if you think none of the files deserve an award. If more people would then vote for None, it wouldn't get an award.

I'll do that if that situation arises. Actually I've never voted before for reasons of my own but now am thinking of doing so.

But what if two really good romps are released in the same month? Should I put them in seperate categories too so they can both win?

If I were to implement separate categories and all that jazz, it would just result in pretty much any file with a score of 7.0 or higher (just an estimate) getting a DOTM award. And then it becomes even more pointless than it currently is.

IMHO, if a D-Mod gets good reviews, that is much more rewarding than winning a DOTM.

Oh, and I'm not trying to undermine Simeon's win (Blood Scorpions did definately deserve it, congrats!), in case anybody thinks that.
