Sticky!
Ey, mods! Could you sticky the Steam post? All the links and whatnot could be gathered there and I don't want to bump it all the time. And it's kinda official. Kinda.
Wanna hear my honest opinion? I don't think the Steam is that official nor that important that it should be stickied. And it has very little to do with Dink itself, as far as I understand. Only thing Dinkish about it is that it's for Dinkers, that's about it.
No offence, but my bottom line is, that it doesn't need to be stickied. It's fine as it is, imho.

The group is very connected to the DN (lol) and I want to post updates here as well, hence it would be more convenient to have it stickied instead of bumping it all the time.
Well, whatever. I just think it's pointless. But I think the whole Steam thing is pretty pointless, so yeah.
As expected, as expected.
If someone can explain to me how the hell this is in any way official, I'll gladly sticky that thread.
(either that or stop being numbnuts)
(either that or stop being numbnuts)
It's official because I asked for permission from all the Dinkers to mark it as Official. Nobody else ever made one, so now it's official.
It doesn't need to be official for a sticky does it? Many users here are registered on the group and I thought that it would be proper to collect all related links in a sticky thread.
I don't think Seth, or Dan or even the staff ever gave you a permission to name it official. Regular Dinkers don't have the power to make something official, even if they like it. Popularity is another thing. If it's really popular, then it might deserve to get stickied. But from what I've gathered, it's not even that popular.
Besides, I don't really see the point in wanting to sticky a thread. We already have way too many sticky threads imo. Only things which really should be stickied are the absolute most important threads, such as the rules thread, how to start D-Modding etc etc.

I don't need permission now do I?

I don't care if it's official. We can remove that tag. I want it stickied because it actually is popular (here and on Steam). People play on my TF2 server, we chat, we have contests and a Minecraftserver is coming up very soon.
I simply won't remove the Official tag. Skull, if you don't like the Steam Group, stop she doging about it to everyone who likes it. Kthnx.
The Dink Wiki isn't official, and that's no requirement to get a sticky... if Iplaydink wanted to call it the "OFFICIAL Dink Network Dink Wiki" though, I'm sure he'd have the common courtesy to ask for permission from someone who's actually in the position to give one (preferably redink1 or Tal).
Hey, I had many people vote for it to be official, so now it is. I don't need Tal or Redink1 to say it's official or not, because it's not made by them. Besides, Tal ok'ed it.
Garg, this is getting out of hand already.
Well, it did look like an ok actually buuut I think it's best if I ask him about this.

Maybe it could go under partners? Linking to the dink steam group?
TDN's "leaders" are a fairly disinterested mob, like the monarchs of old; Since these benevolent dictators seldom take initiative to innovate, the peasants revolt so that the Dink Network remains interesting and worth visiting.
Absolution proving why I hate him/her. (He/She is such an arrogant senseless brat)
And skull proving, why she deserves to be a mod.
We dont need "Official DN" tag next to everything.
And seriously, STEAM SUCKS

It's not official.
It won't be stickied.
It's nice that it's there though.

Yeah, I agree that it's not official. I'll contact Tal about if he can enlighten it a little here on the DN somehow.
I think Tal's got better things to do than listen to whining constantly. When he was here a while back, we pretty much drove him away by being dumbasses, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want to be in any contact with TDN ever again.
This isn't whining.
How's asking for permission whining?
Also, "we"... I'm pretty sure he got pissed at four certain users last time.
Also, "we"... I'm pretty sure he got pissed at four certain users last time.
Godley, skull, doodler and pred.Yeah,I've read that thread.
It's whining in my opinion, when a staff member tells you no and then you go ask it from a person who's in higher control, who is probably much less interested in the subject, and who apparently has better things to do. That's like a child going ask his other parent for a permission, after the other one has denied it. So if you ask me, it's whining.
Also, yes I know Tal mostly got pissed off at four of us. But "we" is the correct word when there is more than just you. Also, I'm pretty sure we four weren't the only reason he left, but rather the overal negative atmosphere of the website, which we were all responsible for.
EDIT: And when the hell did Tal ok that it's official? Screenshot or it didn't happen!

lol, yeah right. Official or not, I want it stickied so it's best to ask the webmaster for permission. He got more games on Steam than everyone here. Hell, it's not a big deal wtf.
He ok'd it in the Steam post, search for the word "boxing".

Skull, chill!
You don't have to be so down on them. They are just passionate about something they like.
Now I agree that "official" is definitely uncalled for in this case, but in what way would one more sticky thread hurt us? He's going to keep bumping it up anyway to keep it visible. Maybe you don't like steam, neither do I. But that doesn't mean we should argue against something they like. I say let them have their fun and give them their sticky. How does it HURT us?

I'm not arguing against them, nor their opinions. This isn't personal at all, and I don't think I'm even being negative. I'm not flaming nor spamming, so I don't think telling me to chill is at all necessary at this point. I am merely saying my opinion about Steam, calling it official, stickying it and that I think it's silly to ask Tal's opinion when another staff member already told them no. I thought they were asking for peoples' opinions, otherwise they would have PM'd the staff, and I think they knew when posting this, that not all replies would necessarily agree with them.
I checked out that post, Quiztis. Tal never gave you the permission to neither call it official, nor sticky it. All he did that would point even the slighest to that idea, was give you his Steam account name.
No hard feelings. Just giving out my thoughts about this. I thought that's what Quiztis wanted when posting this.

Yes, we are definitely getting a drink of Skull-light today!
But seriously: It is the right of anyone to go over someone's head to their boss/administrator if they believe that they were dealt with unfairly. It's just like if you get a lousy waiter in a restaurant giving you a hard time, you can complain to their boss. The boss can decide to side with you or them, but it's still your right to bring it to their attention, if you feel strongly enough about it.
It's not always best to just give in, sometimes you need to fight for what you want.
Just remember one thing, Skull -- sometimes even an opinion can hurt, especially when you are fond of what's being criticised. I am not saying you were wrong to express yours, but I think you would wind up in a lot less arguments if you could keep in mind what your opinions might make others feel.

Yes, but the staff are our "bosses" and the King is their "boss". You could also say we're all equal but that would be lying, cause what I said is a fact. They don't necessarily boss us around, but they do decide most of the stuff. So if a staff member says no, then it's his place to go ask the King what he thinks of it. That's why I said Quiztis was whining. It wouldn't have been whining imho, if Quiztis had asked Sabre, for example, to ask Tal what he thinks of it, but I think it's whining that when Sabre tells him no, he still decides to ask the King, himself.
It doesn't really matter to me at all if this does get stickyed or not. But it's just that I don't think it needs to, nor do I think it's necessarily smart for Quiztis to ask Tal when the staff just told him no.
But that's all from me. I don't want to, as Schnapper would say, "fap all over" Quiztis' thread.

One thing: I never said it wasn't "whining", I just said its legit.
And don't think I'm on anyone's side in this, I'm just trying to spread peace and love and all that hippie junk.

We can stop calling it official, get the word removed from your heads regarding Steam, the title saying OFFICIAL will be removed. I am a persistent peasant and will AskTal anyway.
Tal about the Official-thing from Absolution: "What? I never gave you my blessing. Is a boxing match necessary?" <- Like 'he doesn't care if it's official or not. Go ahead.' kinda.
Tal about the Official-thing from Absolution: "What? I never gave you my blessing. Is a boxing match necessary?" <- Like 'he doesn't care if it's official or not. Go ahead.' kinda.
Skorn said he would name it official. Tal replied "I didn't give you my blessing", to which Skorn replies "I don't need your blessing". I may be wrong about this, but I thought he clearly meant he hadn't given permission to name it official.
I find I have to agree with skull here. Tal said neither yes or no. It is still left undecided whether or not he supports it officially or not.
I kinda agree with Darksign on this one. You don't need to give your opinion everytime you think something's wrong/odd, because, as Darksign put it, even an opinion can be hurtful.
And I'm not saying you shouldn't ever vent your opinions.
Edit: have to agree with quiztiz too btw. This has gone further than it ever was necessary.

Hey, it's the DN after all.
What the duck man. The Dink Network has pretty much official nothing. I think certain people need to pull their heads from their arses because the way some of ye be carrying on, you'd think The Dink Network was heritage or divine or something.
It's perilously short-sighted to refuse to support someone's efforts to expand a dying community merely because your' paranoid about losing you sense of control.
The reality is that it's the peasants that make TDN interesting and I believe that TDN should be less about policing and finger-wagging and more about creativity and fun.

^ The voice of reason and truth. The staff do nothing to make this community fun, so they shouldn't complain that the underlings try to make fun out of a "dying community". >_>
Something like 25 odd dinkers have joined that group, it takes nothing from here. In fact is has caused more of a sense of community IMHO somewhere to enjoy each others company away from the flaming and overly opinionated amongst us.
Personally I dont care if its official or not - but with so many of us using it on a daily basis be nice to have it stickied like the wiki (Ohh I'm a poet!) (um... does anyone visit the wiki as much as that?)
Edit Here here Schnapps!

Nobody ever goes to the Wiki, so I fail to see how it's stickied.
There's a steam group? No way! I do not visit this site enough. :/
BTW: Seeing as everyone's giving there 'HOs', I need to give mine. IMHO, Skull needs to get over himself and ya'll need to stop arguing. My mother says that "Sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
MsDink raises an extraordinarily valid point in that the wiki sticky is pretty much unused. I can't remember the last time I went there, and I'm sure many will agree. When 25 dinkers join a group and visit it regularly, then the relevant thread on this board should be stickied or linked to or at least something.
Yeah, that's my monthly post on this board. <3

This definitely did get needlessly long. Certain people should probably jump from a bridge to cool down.

I agree... What I can't stomach is the utter douchebaggery of adding a blatant lie to the title of a group, refusing to change it, and still demanding cooperation.

Whatever, just giving out my opinion. Thought that's what Quiztis wanted. You can't always like others' opinions, sadly.
Dink Wiki should be removed. The problem mainly with this Steam group is, that Dink Wiki also used to have around 25 regular people addings articles, but the popularity faded. Same with the chat, although there are still more people there than in the Wiki. I think if the Steam group remains popular (and if the official tag is removed, aherm) then it maybe should get stickied, though I still don't see the actual point. Dinkers' interests fade quickly, I've noticed, so it's only sensible to wait a while, cause then we would have another useless sticky.

Official here means 'the one everyone uses instead of a hundred ones' instead of 'by the master.'
IMHO, it should be stickied because everyone uses it regularly, whereas the Wiki certainly isn't. IMHO, the Wiki is unneeded IMHO. Who does research on boncas?
Agreed with schnapper. IMHO, the lower a person's rank, the more they visit.
Sadly, some staff think their lofty title means they're oh-so-powerful and they abuse their power. I'm glad Tal's gone, he'd close every good thread and just praised himself...

Thank you for your humble opinions and support, fellow Dinkers. This one won't fade.
The official tag will be removed, I can assure you that.

Why not have it stickied while there's an interest shared by so many...?
If people aren't involved with it in the future then we'll remove the stickietag? I mean, what's the problem here?

Or will we? That's the question. The Dink Wiki certainly should not hold place in the stickies anymore, and yet it is still there.
Doodler, that "the one everyone uses instead of a hundred ones" theory isn't true in fact. Even though everybody uses The Dink Network, nobody calls it the official site, because it isn't.

Yeah? Yeah!
I just feel that it's wrong that we have to ask the staff when we do a contest or group, when they have little to do with it.
Skull, you're a GENIUS! I'm leaving this site and am going to the Dink Smallweb Now let's jet!

True, true. Mainly because no one has been bothered by it being stickied? I think the staff would have removed it if people in general felt it wasn't needed anymore. Maybe discussions like this one are necessary to keep 'em up to date.

Maybe it's time for another sticky re-jig.
What say you, disgusting peasantlings? Would you like the noble staff to engage in debate concerning the future and merit of certain sticky threads?

Well, personally I think the Dink Wiki, PSP Dink and D-Mod Tutorial threads should be removed from stickies. The latest mentioned at least until the whole tutorial is done. And I think no more should be added unless they're somehow superbly needed above the rest of the threads.
I don't have nothing against the topic of these threads or anything like that, I just feel like they aren't important and needed enough to be stickied. There are more, but those aren't as obvious. TDN in my view stickies threads way too easily.

YUS why not condense all the info to one thread - without the 50 thousand comments under them?
1. I recon we could have one how to make dmods thread - point to files and tutes add dinkc ref one
2. Alternate platforms (another sticki) put ALL links here
3. Rules there too
4. would like to see wiki get a partner icon and not be stickied Or a groups sticky and add steam and wiki and any others
5. edits in a add a DEVELOPMENT sticky - not just dmod but all developments??
thats it all we need
then close those puppies so the crap is kept out because these are threads new people read all the time - doesnt need junk said by us in them theyre read for the info not the waffle and is rather painful to have to troll thru the junk to get what you need
thats My Humble Opinion
Edit: Oh and there should be a link stickied to my profile page please with a huge THIS IS THE DINKER OF THE CENTURY all hail MD!! I shouldnt have to insist but well you all know why this is necessary and right - i really shouldnt have to state the reasoning - its obvious
Edit Edit - I swear I saw Sabres fish tail twitch when i posted the ammendment... lol seriously

Imho, the tutorial should stay stickied.... It's a great thread and it should be easy accessible for new dinkers who want to get into modding
That would be under # 1 very important
Scratcher, I'm sure you're as busy as the rest of we adult dinkers, so I'd like to point out this comment by Quiztis further up this very thread:
"I'll ask mods one more time:
If the official tag is removed, would you please sticky the post?" - Quiztis, 2011
Surely we can save ourselves a tide of "douchebaggery" if we keep the communication lines clear

The PSP Dink should totally be unstickied because the links are now dead and we can't download it now.
Hm, I don't think it should be unstickied but updated instead.
It would be nice to have it stickied in my opinion.
I simply won't remove "Official" from it's name just because a few feel it's not. If Tal or redink1 (doubt it) say it's not, then it's not. But Tal already confirmed that it's fine with him, so I won't remove it.
I still stand by it; Replace the Dink Wiki sticky with Steam - Nobody uses the wiki. >_>

&@%$!! Absolution!!
Better stickied than "official".
Quiztis - I'm going to start a discussion with the other staff about what should/shouldn't be stickied in the next few days and we'll take into account what the community wants to see changed/kept the same. Rest assured this thread will be discussed.
General lols in the direction of Absolution.
General lols in the direction of Absolution.
Get rid of aural plus and the upcoming dmod list.
Imo the upcoming D-Mod list should remain, but we should make sure it's up to date frequently.
I think the Aural+ thread should definitely be kept. Some peoples' computers crash (especially older computers) because they can't handle the music, and Arual+ fixes that. If newBs had this problem, the thread would be there waiting for them, and they could fix it without making a dozen threads asking how.
I don't think the Upcoming D-Mods list should necessarily be kept in the stickies, but then again, I can't come up with a reason why it shouldn't, so I think it's fine as it is.

Why, thank you noble fish. Peasants galore!
Hm, I think the Upcoming DMOD list should be kept, Aural+ I dunno, I always use Aural+. + is better.

^What she said.
One of the reasons I can think of why the upcoming D-Mod list should be kept stickied is that it can be encouraging for developers to see what other authors are developing. Such as myself.

I hope we will keep the wiki stickied or put it in the partners list, even if no one uses it now. I have plans for it, if I ever get around to them.
All those in bold will be staying, I think.

The links for PSP Dink are dead, so it should be updated or unstickied.
How about a thread such as "Other partners" or something, where we would have the Wiki, Steam and all the stuff like that. I don't think the Steam and the Wiki are important enough at the moment to have their own sticky threads.
Plus, I recall there are some other sites like that, which could also go in that thread. Sadly, I don't remember exactly what these sites were.

^ Could work actually. Or updated icons under the partners section with Steam icon, wiki icon etc.
The Steam group is very active at the moment with 29 members, two servers, regular contests and the overall social aspects of gaming. At least 15 members or so is online more or less every day.

The issue with updating the partners section is the same issue that has plagued this site for years.
The people with access are gone and forgot to pass the keys over. It looked like things were changing in this respect, and I still hope we'll see progress, but don't expect any changes to the partners section any time soon.
EDIT: It's sooo tempting to rip Absolution's OP and create an actual official Steam thread. But I won't because I'm just not that evil. Or childish.

I beg you, please do it.
The thing I am afraid with of putting the Steam in the stickies, is that the popularity of it will fall eventually, just like with everything else around here. It isn't that big of a deal, we could always remove it if that happens, but we all know how things work around here, slooooooow.
Also, we saw how the contest turned out. Not too many joined the contest, as far as I understand, so I'm a bit skeptical about how popular it really is, after all.
On top of that, I just simply don't see any reason as to why sticky it. I mean, it's not that hard to just simply search the thread, and if it has enough updates, it will pretty much always remain on the front page.
So, I think we should either do what I suggested in my last post, or we should wait for a while. If the Steam is popular enough for threads talking about it to always remain on the first page, then I think maybe it should be stickied.

I for one, want to change all that, starting here.
There were 4 entrants. It was successful and there will only be gaming-related contests from now on it btw. I want it stickied cuz it's Dink related, huge gaming platform, lots of activity and I want to post updates and announcements here in a easy-to-find sticky post. It isn't a big deal and if popularity drops, unsticky it. The DN has enough members and activity for this sticky I tell ya.

Wait, team fortress 2 is related to Dink? The things you learn.
I wouldn't call 4 entrants to a picture contest that successful. I don't think it's that Dink related either, except that people who play Dink are a part of it. These people have pretty much probably joined every group for games that they play a lot. Also, the thread isn't that hard to find because it remains on the first page quite a lot with updates, and you can always use the search page. The problem with unstickying it, is that nobody will bother to do so.
I don't think you have really given us any reason as to how stickying the Steam thread would benefit people who lurk on this site. Right now you're just making it sound like you want it to simply get stickied for the awesomeness of getting stickied itself.

I think the Steam initiative was a smart move as most of the members also hang out there. That's why. Convenience for the members, I want it stickied or somehow more visible. It's not a big deal on a forum with liek 20 posts on a good day. (not saying that ain't bad or anything)
Oh, yeaaah, this just SCREAMS non Dinkish to me. Skull, keep your opinions to yourself from now on. You have nothing to back them up.
Full res. by schanpper. Mog makes a great Heavy.

That's either because A.) everyone was too busy or B.) they all knew that weren't gonna win, so they just layed down and died. I mean, who wouldn't flee from a goblin Siamese-twin wielding a Gatling gun?!

I didnt enter cause I know you needed the win schnapps ;P
Seems a bit crazy someone with no interest in Steam can continually be so vocal about it.

All those in bold will be staying, I think.
http://www.dinknetwork.com/forum.cgi?Modify=153276Sticky: The Unwritten (and now written) Guidelines of the DN
Sticky: Robj's D-Mod Creation Tutorials
Sticky: The Dink Network Upcoming D-Mods List
Sticky: Dink wiki
Sticky: DinkC Reference
Sticky: How To Start Creating D-Mods
May I suggest instead of splitting the stickies up and having so many dev threads as in tutes, dinkc, dev info- (and this is due to eventually there being so many posts it will lag like hell when theyre opened ) that all dev information goes under one sticky with a link to their own threaDS - That the stickies be info only and then closed (and opened to add and closed again) then theyre fast to load and all theinformation is contained in one sticky linking all those threads with the actual information in them (suggestions below).
Eg: Stickey: DMod creation - links in this to Robs tutes - to dinkC ref and how to get the book - Metas Intro to domodding - rudiments - wde - links to the skeletons (if needed) and any other helpful information as its added (or that I dunno about heh)
Stickey - Alt Dink Platforms etc - Links to freedink (closed already AWESOME - no room for comments cause theyre not needed on this stuff) - PSP dink - aureal under there maybe? -
Stickey - DN forum rules (without the comments underneath)
Sticky - Partners/Community Groups - Wiki - Steam - Facebook - Dink solutions - Seths Site
Stickey - Upcoming FILES list - Two sections in this so that it can then include upcoming dmods as well as non dmods like sheveks new editor, and so on
MsDinky likes order Thats all neat easy to find without trolling 100 posts to get your info and if its all in one place (linked to the actual discussion thread) then its easier for new people to find it. Maybe even a url dedicated to windows and linux etc issues and how to get dink/wde working properly as there is constant queries about this...

The reason I didn't participate was because Skorn didn't even bother to give a GMT time and date. I cbf figuring it out and it all seemed really half-assed. For something that was supposedly official it certainly didn't seem like it.

If you're referring to the Team Fortress 2 Brawl, I did, and so did Quiztis.
If you're referring to the art contest, it had no times, you just had to send things.

I have had quite a lot to back up so far. Quiztis already said he had 4 entrants to the contest, which to me seems like people really don't care for the Steam that much. I have lots of backup, so I have the right to say my opinions.
Also, I haven't really even bashed the Steam group in this thread. I've just said that I don't think there is any reason as to why it should be stickied. I've backed up my statements lots of times. However, I've only gotten one backup, as to why it should be stickied, and that basically was "Some of the members hang out there. I want it stickied". So yeah, I'm still saying to wait for a while, and if it really remains popular enough, then sticky it, even though I wouldn't still see the point.
Oh, and I like MsDink's idea.

It's not a big deal. It won't need a point for a small community like this. Uugh...
Well, considering the staff haven't stickyed it because it has the "official" tag on it, which is just the minority of the problems with stickying it, I'd say it does need some backup as to why it should be stickied.
As I said, right now it seems like you're only wanting it to get stickied, just to simply have your thread stickied. I know it's cool to get stickied, but dang...

No, but I can't see any other reason as to why Quiztis and Skorn want this thread to get stickied so bad. They haven't provided any backup to their statement about the Steam group being so important to TDN, that it should get stickied.
Say what you say, simply wanting to get stickied plays a big part about their statements and their wishes in this thread.
EDIT: I'm 50/50 here. I really just simply don't care if this get stickied. I don't see a point in it. All I really want is for Quiztis and Skorn to give some real reason. I want them to explain how it is so extremely important to get this stickied, that there is no other choice. I have given opinions to why it shouldn't, but I'm not gonna get mad if it does. All I want is them to give some backup to why it should.

The thread being labelled "Official" has nothing to do with it not having been stickified.
Though it's not official. And it's unlikely to be stickuppeded in it's current form.

We don't want to sticky it just to have a cool, stickied thread. -.- A stickied thread is for convenience for the members. Not a big deal x4 multicast.

Me too! Grouping the stickies by category like that lets us keep them to a manageable number while still including a bunch of things. Also that way it wouldn't single out specific things like the Steam group so much, which might let us avoid some of the controversy.

I agree, we could say "head to the Steam post under Other Stuff on the DN" or something.
I haven't even stated my opinion or as you say, "Wanted to get it sticked so bad". I really don't care if it's stickied or not, but it would make sense considering the Wiki which is never used being stickied.
And I think it is very relevant to Dink. Why? It's bringing our community back together; Take as such, a break from all the idiocy on this forum. We go there to play games and forget the shoot that happens here.
