Error code -11 and inventory
Why is it that sometimes, when "coming back" from the inventory screen after having just selected a new "weapon" that the Dink engine crashes with [Error code -11]? It does not happen with any particular item. Even the fist sometimes does it.
Is there any solution or workaround to prevent this that anyone knows about?
I don't recall this happening with magic items.

I've never had this happen before.
Although I recall seeing one other person say they had this error a while back:
Error code 11
Obviously no one came up with a solution then either. Not sure why this has happened to very few people only.

Well, that is distressing.
For now, I think I may have an effective workaround for the problem.
If it happens to you, try this workaround whenever selecting a "weapon" (or other non-magic item) from inventory.
a) Press the [Ctrl] key to make your selection.
b) Wait three whole seconds (just slowly count to 3).
c) Make that selection a second time, pressing the [Ctrl] key.
d) Now it should be safe to press [Enter] to leave the inventory screen.

In light of that solution, have you tried adding a wait before and/or after the "show_inventory" in "button4.c"?
Never know your luck, maybe even a wait(0) would fix it, just to give it time to process every other script in the queue. Not sure if it'll work but it's worth a go.

What are you using? FRED, HotDucks or vanilla?

I've never had this happen either.
I use (almost exclusively) freedink.exe for Linux (1.08[?]) and also occasionally I test using dink.exe for Windoze ((1.08[?])) on WINE emulating Windoze Vista.

Hmmm.. is it possible to use FreeDink 109.6 through WINE and see if it happens there?
Although, I've never had it happen in vanilla 1.08 either.

I went to go do that and the game prompted me to download and install HD 1.91. I was unable to reproduce the problem there, but something weird happens coming back from the inventory screen. For some reason this version invokes the ultimate cheat script, which I have assigned to the [0] (zero) key. So, I guess that does not really tell us much.
I'll try the idea out to add some delays around the "show_inventory();" line in button4.c.

Wait what. FreeDink prompted you to download Dink Smallwood HD?
I must have read that wrong.

Um... no. One of the earlier Seth DinkHD versions prompted me to make that download.

Sorry if I was unclear. I have these 3 installed:
#1 Linux FreeDink
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 279264 Oct 24 2014 /usr/games/freedink
#2 Windoze original(?) Seth Dink
C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood
2/25/2006 8:48 PM 315,392 dink.exe
#3 Windoze HD Seth Dink (the one that was just automatically updated)
C:\users\XXXXXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\DinkSmallwoodHD

Oh, and by the way, I could not get any variation on the button4.c solution to work.
