WDE crashing when viewing sprites
Im running on win 10 x64 home edition single-language. This worked before, but after reseting my PC because it was ducking slow, I then opened wde but it crashed when I got to view the map. This has been a problem with wde plus and wde2 too. What I can only do now is just make a test dmod, but can only view and change tiles. It crashes when you press E to get some sprites. Yes, I can play the test dmod properly, without running into a problem but, a dmod isn't without sprites!
I tried all color and compatibility modes for wde, and even reinstalled dink on my PC (not on a hard drive).
It's a nightmare, im now being occasionally forced to use my dad's pc,(which has 32 bit win 7), as it is the only way to edit my dmod, only when editing maps and sprites and attaching scripts to sprites, but I do scripting and testing on my PC.
Also, I hate the dinkedit tool! It works fine when editing my dmod on my PC but there's no way im getting in touch with that thing!

Dinkedit isn't difficult to use once you memorise the keys. Scratcher had a good guide to it at one point but I can't find it. It's the most stable of the editors that exist.
I found a dinkedit/freedinkedit guide, it's from "Ted's tools and toys". I guess I'll have to start a new life with a different editor. Goodbye sweet and convenient world of WDE. Hello stressful life of looking up to keyboard shortcuts, and occasionally losing cursor that goes off the screen.
Every once in awhile WinDinkEdit would crash for me on seemingly random DMods for whatever reason when trying to view the sprite list. Sometimes after working perfectly fine before..
I've had luck in the past fixing it by renaming the problem DMod folder. Keep the name short. Maybe that would work.

Yeah, I made a .html document listing the keyboard shortcuts at some point (apparently, in 2008!): Dinkedit Keys. I think it's still missing a few keys, which is why I never released it here. I also meant to create a proper full-fledged tutorial for Dinkedit with that as a starting point, but I think the ship's sailed... I can't believe it's been 12 years. Where has that time gone?!
If you bother to ger comfortable with Dinkedit, it's vastly more quick than Windinkedit, especially when it comes to editing tiles.
WDE is for babies. GIT GUD

I agree with the above.
Dinkedit is faster.
My first dmod demo, TGKA was created in only dinkedit.
After that I got lazy, started using windinkedit and lost my dinkedit skillz y'all. Damn. What a life.

All this just makes me wish we had a proper modern cross-platform editor...
This issue seems to pop up a lot.
I've fixed it in the past by doing a complete clean reinstall.
EDIT:
Yeah.

Other Windinkeditplus (Using windinkedit plus 2 here) problems I've noticed, just to list them somewhere at least:
1. Hardness sometimes vanishes - I've found this only happens if you have windinkeditplus open and juggle multiple windows, which is strange (fix by backing up your hard.dat when you create your dmod, and if it happens, copy it back in - hard.dat doesn't change unless you edit your hard tiles index, so just create a new backup if you edit your hard tiles).
2. sprite "size" seems off sometimes - I think there's some sort of discrepency in how windinkedit handles the position of a sprite when you resize it? .. in the past when I've increased a sprites size and placed it in position, in game it's slightly offsetted from where I actually placed it. Position is fine in regular dinkedit
3. sequences with dink.ini "leftalign" option displays wrong - If you open windinkedit and drop down one of the sequences with "leftalign" enabled on them in dink.ini, some of the pixels are missing (I think windinkedit is treating them as having the "Black" dink.ini option or something), in game they are fully visible.

Yipee!! I was able to run WDE and access it's sprite mode without crashing! What I did was to make a copy of the dink folder, the dmod folder, and the dink.exe into a flash drive whose file system is FAT, (which happens to be a very old 256 MB flash drive). I really don't know why it won't work on storage devices with NTFS or exFAT file systems, which happens to be very weird. But still, WDE works for me now!! Also, thanks for the info you guys have provided.
