New Graphics: Ninja Dude Graphics
Posted by Tal on Tuesday December 6th, at 07:53 AM
Rabid wolf dude rabidwolf9 has unleashed the rabid fury of his Ninja Dude Graphics, dude. So you can, like, put a ninja in your D-Mod or something, dude.

Whoa, I totally wonder what life would be like with rabid surfer-talking ninja wolves. Dude.

New Video Tutorial: Bombrox
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday December 7th, at 09:22 PM
I've released a new development file: Video Tutorial: Bombrox. It consists of a D-Mod and a video.

The D-Mod is a simple one-screen thing that has a wizard summoning some bombs to blow up some rocks.

The video shows you step-by-step how the D-Mod was created. It lasts about sixteen-and-a-half minutes.

This is a test to see if video tutorials are useful. So... please, critique away. If video tutorials sound like a nice idea, let me know what to improve so the future ones will be more beneficial.

Posted by Tal on Wednesday December 7th, at 10:41 PM
Another month, another Download of the Month award vote. It only happens twelve times a year, but the DOTMs seem to spring up one right after the other. It's craziness, I tell ya.

There's a wide variety of November goodies for you to pick from: metatarasal's The Scourger (no, metatarasal is not the scourger), and... um... None! With such a broad range of candidates for the November DOTM award, there's something for everyone. Go now! Make your mouse clicks heard!

Updated Dev Graphics: Ninja Dude Graphics
Posted by redink1 on Friday December 9th, at 10:19 PM
Ye ol' foaming puppies o' 9 has slobbered up a new release of Ninja Dude Graphics. This release is filled with such awesomeness that it went straight from 1.0 to 1.03! I think this release fixes a few problems in the example D-Mod.

Speaking of awesomeness and ninjas, someone much more talented than I once said, "Ninjas can kill anyone they want! Ninjas cut off heads ALL the time and don't even think twice about it. These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time. I heard that there was this ninja who was eating at a diner. And when some dude dropped a spoon the ninja killed the whole town."

Updated Dev File: Dink.ini Rewrite v3.0
Posted by Tal on Friday December 9th, at 10:33 PM
DraconicDink has updated his Dink.ini rewrite thing to version 3.0. It includes more .ini files to play around with as well as a few other modifications. My little sister is playing a videogame in which a small raccoon on the ground could easily be confused with a very tiny panda. A samurai panda.

Updated D-Mod: The Scourger v1.1
Posted by Tal on Friday December 9th, at 10:38 PM
There's this totally sucky D-Mod that nobody likes called The Scourger, made by some (non-ninja) dude who calls himself metatarasal. Mr. Tata has updated his D-Mod to version 1.1 and has supposedly reduced the suckitude levels by fixing a few bugs and making the game easier for older computers.

New Video Tutorial: WinDinkedit Introduction
Posted by redink1 on Saturday December 10th, at 08:44 PM
Ye ol' Simon Klaebe has released a video tutorial entitled WinDinkedit Introduction. It covers the basics of creating a D-Mod with WinDinkedit.

I liked it quite a bit, but I'm not sure why SimonK decided to use an obviously-fake Australian accent for all of the voice over.

New Video Tutorial: Hardness Editing
Posted by redink1 on Sunday December 11th, at 05:55 PM
Merry ol' Simon Klaebe comes down the chimney again, and persists with his accented adventures in Video Tutorial: Hardness Editing. This covers the whole gamut of editing hardness, from sprite hardness, to tile hardness, to tile hardness editing. All from within WinDinkedit, not any of that old school DinkEdit fishizzle.

The desire to create a euphemism regarding 'hard' is strong, yet I must resist.

New Spell: Barbeque Flamethrower
Posted by Tal on Sunday December 11th, at 06:41 PM
A Barbeque Flamethrower has been unleashed upon us by the riotous joshriot. If the name of the file is any indication, this package includes a flamethrower that's been placed on a barbeque. If it's been barbequed, does that negate any usefulness, or does that enhance the flamethrowing effects? I'm not about to find out myself.

Updated D-Mod: Initiation v1.0.2
Posted by redink1 on Sunday December 11th, at 10:32 PM
I've updated Cast Awakening Part 1: Initiation to v1.0.2. 10 months ago, this Ducklord fellow e-mailed me about 4 fairly serious bugs. At the time, I was fairly entrenched in school work, and I didn't see anything wrong when I first looked through my source files. Thankfully, he didn't stop, and just recently brought the errors to my attention again. What a guy!

I've also used this release so Initiation will work properly with Dink Smallwood v1.08. Sadly, this means that it will not work with v1.07 or earlier, so you might want to hold off trying it for a while.

Updated Video Tutorial: Hardness Editing
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday December 14th, at 06:52 AM
Simon Klaebe has updated his Video Tutorial: Hardness Editing to include information about the right-click hardness menu, as well as setting the default hardness for tiles. Somehow he manages to fit 15 minutes of video into 15 MB... which might be a bit much for dial-up users, but that's still quite an accomplishment.

Awards: November DOTM Results
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday December 14th, at 06:55 AM
Congratulations are in order for metatarasal for his D-Mod The Scourger, which tromped the competition with 82% of the vote! Granted, he was only competing against the mysteriously enigmatic Mr. None, but it's still quite an accomplishment. Good job!

New/Updated Dev Files: DraconicDink releases a bunch of stuff.
Posted by Tal on Wednesday December 21st, at 06:42 PM
Always-busy DraconicDink has updated one script package and released two fresh ones for your perusal:

Treasury 1.5, which includes scripts for food, hearts, potions, and the like;
Bestiary, a set of monster scripts;
and Inventory Items, a set of scripts for things such as weapons, speed boots, and elixers.

Updated Dev File: Scriptus Generica version 2
Posted by Tal on Saturday December 31st, at 11:56 AM
The trout which possesses a sabre has released for a second time Scriptus Generica, a collection of generic DinkC scripts. He has included a new shop script and two new pillbug scripts. One pillbug script varies their size, the other varies their size and increases their stats accordingly. I'm sure with the right cheat code you can also find the psychedelic technicolor tie-dye pillbugs.

New D-Mod: Once a Hero Demo
Posted by Tal on Saturday December 31st, at 12:03 PM
On this dandy New Year's Eve (New Year's Day for some of you), the crazy Englishboy SabreTrout has also provided us with a demo of the upcoming D-Mod Once a Hero. The dmod.diz file says that a young man named Dink Smallwood has his life changed forever when he and a friend stumble across ancient crap, but I felt that this excerpt of slightly broken English from the readme file sums it up best: "This is d-mod features many new features not seen before." How dandy!

New Dev File: cypry's Warrior Skills Pack
Posted by redink1 on Saturday December 31st, at 12:27 PM
cypry has sent along a Warrior Skills Pack for budding D-Mod developers to take advantage of. It includes Beserker Charge and WarCry2. In fact, WarCry2 is much better than WarCry1, and don't even mention WarCry0.
