alright, this ends now
why in the hell can't i windinkedit anymore? i load up a dmod, press space to render all the squares - crash. i select an individual square to zoom into it - crash. open sprites grid? CRASH. i think there's been times i can render a screen, but making or editing anything is impossible. all versions of windinkedit do this. freedinkedit doesn't though. even a skeleton nukes itself.
maybe there's something ducked with the installation. since dink is so unpredictable about when it will bug out and take a massive shit, i've probably moved my entire dink folder to the desktop, to program files and back to the desktop. some vista thing that persisted. or if it didn't persist, some of it did. the desktop seems to be the best place to put dink, otherwise the dmods install...somewhere. just somewhere.
i'll open regular dfarc and it asks to specify where dink.exe is. every time. no idea why since the two are in the same spot. back whenever, i posted a thread about the registry. it doesn't seem to be registry related now, though. i don't even know where that registry thread i make is.
i don't even know what other information i could possibly give. it's not like it writes a crash log anywhere. i think leprochaun once said to go through and comment out everything in the dink.ini file until i find what line is causing it. but it's in every dmod. not every dmod suddenly has a faulty line somewhere.

install gentoo
I actually don't know what your problem is. The only issue I've ever had with WDE is the fact that it will always crash when trying to load a 24bit image. Your issue is probably something weird with the installation. I'd recommend removing all your dink stuff and reinstalling. It could have something to do with you moving the dink folder since it's trying to access things it no longer has a path to.
also i can load all the default tiles. and it's not asking for dink.exe's directory anymore.
muh dink.ini
muh dink.ini
fun fact, dink stuff takes up no space at all, so feel free to download all of it you can
why it's taking forever to move shit from one part of c:/ to another? who knows. my ponies folder is huge and moved instantly. welcome to windows.
edit: uninstalled, reinstalled. still doesn't work. duck it. it's over.

... And you've tried pressing space to render the tile display for any other Dmod/original Dink too?
the error code, 0xc0000417 is related to misconfigured system files. but since windinkedit+2 (and other editors) aren't system files, i assume it can apply to other shit.
but, if it's the dink.ini, that wouldn't make sense. dmods load and run fine and don't crash when whatever offending sprites are called to be drawn. and freedinkedit doesn't crash when rendering screens.
the registry key is also pointing to dink's installation, so it can't be that.

dinkedit works too, actually.
edit: i can't even load a new ducking screen
edit: are we sure the windinkedit+2 we have on the site isn't just corrupt? this shit used to work. there's no installation process and therefore, no registry entry to check/fix. i've replaced the .exe multiple times. there is literally no reason this should be happening unless windinkedit+2 itself it broken.
edit: OR NO, WINDINKEDIT+ DOESN'T WORK EITHER WHY THE DUCK AM I THE ONLY ONE TO RUN INTO SO MANY DUCKING ISSUES
edit: AND NEITHER DOES DUCKIN WINDUCKINDINKDUCKEDIT. WHY
edit: https://imgur.com/a/tEXLf i can load these...but again, i can't load a blank screen even though there are blank screens visible in the first one...
edit: ok, i CAN view blank screens, just not in the dmod i wanna edit...or in end of the world...or cloud castle 2..or call to greatness <_<
edit: but in bored of the rings, i can render all this before it dies and yes, i have deleted dink (moved dmods and other shit to another folder temporarily though), and reinstalled dink. i've also tried installing dink over itself. the .ini should be totally fine. i mean, dmods don't crash due to any .ini bullshit. and it's only the windinkedit line doing it..
edit: dink and the chins loads just fine...joy.
edit: i used windinkedit+2 to unpack all the dir.ff files in the original game. loaded the whole map. still crashes when trying to load the map for my shitty dmod, though...
edit: packed to dir.ff files in my shitty dmod. didn't work. unpacked. still doesn't work.

It's not broken, the dmods you listed renders fine for me.
yeah, it's just the windinkedits doing this shit
dink smallwood: achievement unlocked edition also doesn't load despite the original game sharing the exact same map and loading just fine.
i found another post on here about how i moved the dink folder over to program files and it fixed everything, but i couldn't move it until recently since windows was claiming that the folder or a file in it was in use by something. i crashed for the 9001st time recently, so i could move it.
and yeah, it does fix everything. i guess now i might discover why i moved it back to the desktop before. i did go and change the registry key and override directory, though. and located the dink installation again when dfarc or windinkedit+2 prompted me. whichever it was.
still, what in the duck was going on
