Dink Smallwood lore questions
So, I have some questions - primarily adressed to Seth - about certain things the game didn't tell me much about:
Who are the Ancients? That's never exactley explained in the game.
What is the backstory of the Smallwood family? There are some cliffhangers in the game about that.
What caused Dink's house to burn down? No, don't answer fire.
How would you describe Dink's personality? I have a bit of trouble being clear about it.
So, Martridge is not a human, but a gnome, right? There's basically nothing known about them, care to share a few info?
Bishop Nelson is a "Slayer shapeshifter", what does that mean?
What were the unfinished areas (ex: the red guards with the meat in the snowy area) intended to be?

Hmmm. I'd be interested in some of those answers too (if they exist - after all it is just a game!).
But since I seem to recall that since Seth is an ancient, perhaps we have a few answers already?
The reason for my interest is that I am seriously thinking about writing a Prequel dmod that explains a few things, such as some of Dink's childhood, his missing father, and more, plus some exciting adventure too, even though he will be just a young boy. I'd certainly like whatever I do (if I do it someday once my schedule opens up again) to be consistent with the totality of the Universe of our hero Dink.

supposedly, the end game was rushed for release. so the ancients and seth are tacked on at the last second or something.
going by how dmods portray ancients, they seem to just be a sort of god-like being that mostly died out long ago. maybe they're gods, mayve they're just super powerful and were worshiped as gods because of it. who knows. the true answer is the Ancients are the developers of the original game, probably.
dink dad fought in the goblin war didn't he? also something about a special bloodline that can kill ancients. this is pretty much why we need a sequel or sumpthin.
i burned down dink's house. fite me 1v1 fgt
dink's personality ranges from naive dummy to raging dink. or both.
martridge is dumbledore junior.
bishop nelson was probably some sort of druid kinda dude. i dunno what else you need besides slayer shapeshifter. maybe he comes from a tribe or something. get on it, guys.
seth probably is the only one with the answer to the last one, or any idea at all.

Ah, but these gaps allowed dmods to fill them with their own story. Anyways, the Ancients are an excuse to shamelessly promote yourself (facebook didn't exist back then), and Dink's house burned down because of the gas leak.
What I am wondering though is, was Charlie the real estate guy were supposed to be implemented...?

I believe the same questions were asked on the RT forums as well , would be interesting to know the official story, a lot of dmods did cover some of this.
I hope we can have more complete version of dink for upcoming anniversary that covers some of the cut content.

Sadly the answer to most of this is "I don't remember" ... the truth is the story of Dink was development mostly on a quest line basis and not put together as a whole. Yeah, it was rather rushed towards the end so I didn't get a chance to go tie threads together.
It's possible Ethel set the fire but only if you killed her duck.
Charlie's house was meant to be something Dink could purchase and live at, just didn't get around to it. In an older game, LORD 2 (simple text game, but multiplayer), I did make houses the user could purchase and I was trying to do that again.

Well, that sucks. So I either have to come up with my own explainations or take the answers from existing D-Mods.
If anyone finds any thread about these when Seth remembered the anwsers, please share it.

Lore should be expanded on in some way. It can really bring Dink Smallwood togheter. For example The Elder Scrolls series wouldnt be what they are today without their lore
I rather like leaving those questions officially unanswered, as it leaves room for d-mod authors to answer them.
Sounds like a potential contest: Creating cohesive lore in a DMOD.
weh! those dudes who try to rob someone early on have the same armour as the dudes in the frozen north, don't they?
i can't check because windinkedit is ducked up.

I like it. A d-mod contest built around Dink lore and answered questions from the first game and/or other famous d-mods.

Now that would definitely be one I would enter. I went through a phase where I was obsessed with this actually. I have two dmods I started a while ago that never made it very far. One was going to be about the burning of Dink's house and the following events. Another one, oddly enough, was actually based around the bow lore guy in Kernsin, and tied in with the goblin sanctuary and George.
cohesive bow-lore.
there, the name of the dmod.

there probably should be create a dink extended edition/ directors cut/ super dinksmallwood edition
dmod contest

yeah, seth. participate in that contest.
..that's a good cover up for "finish dink" right?

But your fans still hunger for "The Dark Avilan". We have waited so long. Please don't get distracted.
I have fans?
...
Well.
...
Well.
i probably have more than you. actually, you're in australia. maybe you have more. or maybe housing duckers are smart enough over there to have mandatory air installations.
I wonder how Seth found about this fan website (if this one was first). Dink wasn't such a popular game. Who would expect such a fanbase.
I also like 'Lore' as a theme for a contest. Maybe in a couple months.
I do have one lore question: Does Ethel have a gray scarf? Or a long beard? Or both?

I'd certainly enjoy any contest that causes more dmods to be generated and would look forward to playing each one.
However, if this contest takes place in "a couple of months", then I doubt I could get my (currently in early stages) prequel ready by then and Dinkers probably would not be interested in my (very late) contribution that might not arrive for another 6 months or more. :-|
So, if you plan to hold the contest, let me know as soon as you are certain that you will do it so that I can drop my efforts on this (probably somewhat redundant) dmod and start thinking about and taking notes for some other ideas for my next dmod instead.
Alternatively, if enough interest is generated here in the forum for my prequel effort at Dink's "back-story" which takes place before he ever went on his 1st formal adventure (the Original Dink Smallwood game), etc., then I'll proceed with it despite the fact it is HIGHLY unlikely to be ready for a contest in "a couple of months".

lets do this lore contest. it'll be a thing.
As someone who spends about nine tenths of his free time worldbuilding for his dungeons and dragons game, a lore contest would be something I would be all up on.
since so many people are interested in this , maybe the prize for the winner should be something epic like that particular wining dmod lore gets to be officially recognized , since seth is around , he can judge the dmods as well.
we never did do that lore contest.
let's go.

@liquid141:
Perhaps we could ask the Administrator to make a special icon for the winner (like King Daniel is unique to redink1).
@Skurn:
I'd say we need a deadline, just one far enough in the future to let a few entries to the contest get completed.
