Let's liven up this place, and has some conversation. It might give some modders or future modders ideas, or motivation, or both.

I've been modding some games in my past ( Prince of Persia, age of empires II ), and I've tried to make a mod for Dink ( I'll do it one day, some day ). Making mods requires a lot of time and effort, 'specially for this game (all that hardness, all those scripts). After finishing my latest mod for 'Prince', I've naturally uploaded it to the ether. It took me 3 months, a mod with just basic changes, but it feels good to make something. Effort took to make it, and the output of the community with comments and excitement is in balance. Carmic circle closes, cosmic equilibrium is achieved etc...

So how modders in here feel about their effort invested in a mod? Is it worth it, or you just want to brutally murder everyone on this site, but then realize that you can't, which gets you even angrier, causing you to fall in deep depression, which forces your parents to call psychiatrist, because you haven't left the room for 2 months, who then subscribes you some heavy drugs, and 24 hour surveillance in the nearest asylum, causing you to freak out even more and successfully remove your straight jacket, overpower the guard, get to the patient archive room, where you find a computer, delete your medical files, and in that folder install the original Dink Smallwood and spend the rest of your life beheading ducks?

It's like you're describing my mid-teens word-for-word.

Knowing someone might enjoy it is reward enough for me really! Maybe sounds a bit cliché though.
Problem is; I don't think people play that many D-Mods nowadays (prove me wrong).

ANYWAY... If you are tempted to give it a go again.. Do it!

2nd generation. No easy way to be free.
The effort invested in generating a dmod of any merit is surprisingly intense. There is mapping, hardness mapping, coming up with a story of sorts and let's not forget scripting and dialogues. Unless you are independently wealthy and don't have a job or any kind of life, many months (ad let's face it, even years!) can go by before you are done generating a dmod.

I assume that it is true that there are fewer folks who download dmods nowadays in favor of more elaborate and more modern gaming options they can choose from. But this does not bother me.

I think the Dink crowd is a unique and eclectic bunch that can appreciate everyone's widely varying styles of storytelling, graphics and level of programming/coding skills. The effect of playing someone else's dmod is like getting to know about someone's idea of fantasy, fun and sense of humor. Sure, the better dmods are more fun; but (for me at least) I've enjoyed all that I've downloaded from here. Even those with very low ratings entertained me!

I just hope that there are those here at the dink network who will enjoy the work I put into the dmod I am currently working on. That hope, is enough "payment" for me.

I disagree.
I know this is everyone's favourite question. Anyone interested in working together on a mini dmod. At snail developing pace. Puzzle oriented. I won't bother much, I just need some small support for the puzzle (story) ideas, or if I get stuck at scripting with something dumb...

Oh, and if that person can draw the hardness... and more complicated scripting... and help with the lack of ideas... or make whole dmod, and credit me for it

Just kidding, but I'm also serious. Skurn I'm 'especially' looking at you, lets make something bizzare. I've got some ideas and I can PM you if you're interested.

Yes, I'm interested. But not in everything. I'm happy to discuss stories and puzzles and scripts, but unless you use my script preprocessor, I don't want to write entire scripts. I also prefer if you do the mapping.

I've noticed that some people don't like to do mapping. I remember an old post where Tim Maurer mentioned that he hates mapping also. That's interesting because I find that mapping is the most fun part of modding. I also like to make graphics. What I don't care much for is coming up with ideas, writing dialogue, and selecting music.

It's always tempting to start a new dmod. But then I remind myself...."For what audience, brassweasel??? For what audience?" But at least there are definitely some out there who are still interested. Best of luck to all modders!

Mapping was actually one of my favorite things to do when making d-mods. Usually I would just draw a rough draft out on paper, then I would just put on a CD and get to work.
