Interesting. I can't find out where to go without dying once I get to the screen with the Continue button, but I guess that's the point: "Ha, I can't believe you're playing this."

There are some fun sights to see though, like lots of jumping potion bottle necks. >w<

Update: So I had a look at this in WDE, and this seems to be pretty big. If only it was more playable.

I just read the walkthrough & I'm surprised that no one else from the DN was put it in, I knew the perfect person who could of when to the *SPOILER Church. Also the only other thing I wonder is whether he actually took time to make it harder to read to add diffuculty to the game.

Yep, I've been adding some stuff. Since Dack was wondering why there weren't any other cameos (despite the fact I was the main villain and not a cameo anyways), and krisknox said he'd pay to see a certain someone put in the game, I've added some people and more game.

Now Dink can meet bornfree15, krisknox, Dack, Dinkulum, and Spinnerweb. Also, schnapper, but he's a...wizard on a pole thingy. Oh, and pillbug.

Well, I'm up to the final boss. The real final boss this time. And no, it's not me.

The mechanics of the fight work, but you can't damage him. Oh, wait, I just went in and added brain 9 right before typing this sentence. Not going to test it, but is should work I guess.

The background also doesn't display even though I did the exact same thing I did for the "final boss". Probably something to do with the final dungeon though, which is cool, but it might be preventing the background. :c

Maybe it's some bitmap glitch. Everything points to the bmp being compatible, except that it won't display in-game.

No ending either. I'll do all the shit later. Screw you guys for pushing me so hard. You're evil jerks. I hope you spill your drink and have to clean it up for 10 seconds more than you normally would because there was 10 seconds more drink than you normally drink. How much time would you say you drink anyways? Would a 10 second increase in drink be because I just burned you so bad that you need more fluids?

Wow, seriously. Duck this engine. First background I made in 24 bits worked perfectly fine. Then I try to make another one and it doesn't work. So I save it in 24 bits, ducked up and overwrote the other one, so I went back and retrieved it, so now I have 2 24bit bmp sprites.

Dink has decided to display them in a different hue in the editor, and a sprite I didn't even edit at all, but is in the same sequence, no longer displays and just does touch damage wherever it wants on the screen instead of the small box I originally gave it.

SETH, GET IN HERE AND REWORK YOUR DAMN ENGINE! IT'S LIKE THERE'S SOME HIDDEN VALUE THAT NOTHING BUT DINK READS IN A BMP. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING.

EDIT: The solution - Irfanview. Just...save it again. Same everything. Different anyways. There must be some hidden value. There has to be. But what causes only gimp to export a different 24-bit bmp...I have no ducking clue. Maybe it's the RGB values. There's only one option when exporting 24-bit images.

If there's a bitmap genius around here who is offended by my ideas/view on bitmap workings, speak up, because I'm just making observations based on the weird bullshit bitmaps do. Maybe I should've switched to indexed after finishing editing. Who ducking knows?

Actually, I think they do need to be indexed 24-bit bmps. So, there you go. Now you know mspaint and irfanview export bmps as indexed.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Again, any bitmap geniuses?

I guess gimp doesn't export the right 24-bit bmp as I said. Don't know exactly what colours Dink uses, just that 24-bit, 16-bit, and 8-bit bmps work.

EDIT: But anyways, I uploaded the thing. Only I tested it, by making some shit, playing it, and whatever and...pretty much having a save right before the next thing I coded, so there's probably about 983 bugs. Let's see.

EDIT: And apparently, the wisps at the beginning have a totally different hit box. I don't know why. I ddn't alter the fireball in any way. So be prepared for a much different, shittier opening level. Or maybe they don't have a different hitbox, but they are definitely glitched.

EDIT: Just ran it in debug and it's not the wisps. It's some mysterious invisible boxes that occasionally vanish. I checked the map and those things don't exist. I have absolutely no ducking clue what they are and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Good news is I almost got to the hearts on the bottom right of the starting level, so at least it's still possible to complete it.

I just...don't understand. So...just run debug mode for the first level, I guess so you don't touch them. I have no other solution.

EDIT: Checked the second level...has them too. I guess the only way you're going to complete this is to cheat.

EDIT TIDIEIOTIO: Dink says "Yo, sprite <x> has a bad pic." Annnnnd? First of all, I don't know why the wisps vanished in the first place since all the frames for moving around are there. Why are they suddenly becoming giant invisible hitboxes instead of just simply vanishing while retaining their hitbox like they did before?

Gimp is a great program but it doesn't get along well with Dink, unfortunately. I also had some stressful times trying to figure out why my DMOD would crash or screw up the graphics. Glad Irfanview saves properly for you. I think I ended up using an older version of GIMP to save graphics so it would work properly.

As for your wisp problem, I have no idea. I'd have to see it in action to take a guess. It's just a shot in the dark, but if the enemies have projectiles that they shoot, perhaps the projectiles are not being properly deleted.

Edit: I'd try saving those graphics for the wisp again in Irfanview and then making sure the hitboxes are correct on the images. Don't know if it will work, but it's my best guess without knowing more.

The wisps are simply the fireball sprite and they slide around.

And you are all now effectively beta testers. Congratulate.

EDIT: None of the fireballs I throw become giant invisible boxes. Anyone ever see nonsense shitsauce like this?

EDITHEUIJF: I went to test if the mysterious hitbox is the same size as another sprite's hitboxand the result is...the fireball I placed to test that has a smaller mysterious hitbox than all the other things I've seen that are glitching.

Looks like the game is ruined. Cool.

That isn't going to happen. But someone else did it for him. They called it Freedink. You should check it out.

Not sure if it fixes all this, though; it tries to be bug-compatible.

About the palette: that is explained, I don't remember where. Probably DinkC.txt. The palette is loaded from the loading screen and never changed after that (or only at loadbmp or something like that). So if you save the loading screen in a different palette than the rest, all your colors are wrong. That problem shouldn't happen with 24 bit images, and AFAIK it doesn't in Freedink; I have no idea what 1.08 does.

Here's the scripting reference for Dink 1.09. It's erroneous in that it actually doesn't support BMPs with an alpha channel properly. It will load them but it doesn't use them.

Also just for reference there was a bug in Freedink palette loading that was discovered when Marpro's Blacksmith's Trail came out which involved high colour tiles which was soon fixed.

FreeDink is 1.09. Or at least, its future would be. It's not just "a linux compatible thing", it's basically the main branch of Dink development. Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't had more fixes over the years.

Anyway, I gotta say I kinda *love* this mod. Am stuck at the fiery fish place though. Will use walkthrough.

Well, it means that right at the start I was thinking "Sheesh... How could you even mess up the title screen?" to "wtf am I playing here and where is all the health" to discovering you have ALL weapons right from the start and there's a whole bunch of silly fun right ahead.

I love the silliness of it, and how everything is all messed up and glitchy. I love how you take Dink's battle system, and devise a way to make it fun again - through pure mayhem and ridiculous level and stat gaining. The reset orb was a clever addition too. And then there are the TONS of enemies taking up the entire screen, making TONS of damage numbers appear over it.

But then there are some battles which are plain tedious if you don't think to level up your strength early enough... and there are some areas that are pretty much instakill unless you figure things out (usually after one of those battles). The maps themselves are mostly nothing special, either, although I understand it was done this way because it's not exactly the focus of the game to have you stand around when you could go around murdering all kinds of weird exotic creatures.

...I just realized I have basically written a review. I was going to wait until I finished the game, dammit!

Yay, you found the first reset orb. About the tedious fights though, I've found that 600-1000 defense is pretty much all you need. The church is probably the last place where you need to worry about damage, but I wrote a trick to that place in the walkthrough.

Then there's the last boss, but that's more of a dps check than anything. Or, maybe more of a dodging thing, I don't know. Come to think of it, I didn't add a full restore when you defeat it, but you should be able to get through the ending before dying...oops. Actually, no, you shouldn't be able to continue taking damage after the boss anyways unless you've got 20000+ attack. Nevermind.

Slayer is supposed to be beatable, right? Because the walkthrough says "JUST DO A LOT OF DMAGAEW" but all weapons miss and the fist only does 1 damage, which doesn't seem to defeat him like it did with the gigantic slime.

The balancing seems okay (edit: a little grindy still), I just put 3000 points into defense not realizing I really needed a LOT of attack later on. Maybe leaving a message somewhere indicating what you should be focusing on would help.

I can also imagine Dink getting to level 100 and not being able to gain any more strength when he needs it. That might be another risk.

Jesus, 3000 defense. I dunno about hitting an xp wall when you need more attack, though. You'd need to duck around even more than me to reach a total of 300 levels. Not really too sure how I got 5000 less attack than last time especially considering I had something like half defense, too.

Maybe some more potions.

I uh.... I'm speechless. I played this and...... It changes your life

The game starts with Dink playing as Jerry Seinfeld playing as Dink. It is about the daily depression and crysis we live in an everyday life, hiding the happiness from our lives. It's truly an inspirational game that deserves to be shown to the next generations.
In the background there's the song from Barney that tries to remind us of the daily crysis we all live once we hit ccollege.
I've played through this game quite a lot and can't get over the story and the characters that truly define this game....
