how do I level up?

Playing the first dmod after playing small dinkwood. How do i level up? There is no sword, no magician. I cannot get out of the village
I am playing the 1.5 v.

Just speak to everyone and they'll probably get you to do a few things before you can leave. Been a while since I played this so not really sure.
